Resilient critical infrastructure: Bayesian network analysis and contract-Based optimization

Instilling resilience in critical infrastructure (CI) such as dams or power grids is a major challenge for tomorrow’s cities and communities. Resilience, here, pertains to CI’s ability adapt rapidly recover from disruptive events. In this paper, the problem of optimizing managing CIs studied. particular, comprehensive two-fold framework proposed improve CI by considering both individual their collective contribution an entire system multiple CIs. To end, novel analytical index measure effect each physical components on its probability failure. Markov chain defining performance state Bayesian network modeling failure are introduced infer index. Then, maximize CIs, approach allocating resources, drones maintenance personnel, proposed. resource allocation framework, based tools contract theory, enabling operator optimally allocate as, redundant monitoring devices economic system. The optimal solution contract-based analytically derived using dynamic programming. then evaluated case study pertaining hydropower interdependence grid. Simulation results, within study, show that can economically benefit resources while have 60% average improvement over initial indices.
